Amman, July 28 (Petra) – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has begun constructing a link road between the Irbid Ring Road and the new Princess Basma Hospital.
The project implements Cabinet decisions adopted during a session held in Irbid Governorate several months ago, which tasked the ministry with building the road despite its location within the boundaries of the Greater Irbid and West Irbid municipalities, given its importance to the healthcare sector and the governorate’s transport infrastructure.
Ministry spokesperson Omar Maharmeh said the project is valued at approximately JD4.4 million and is scheduled for completion within 365 days from the commencement date.
The project involves constructing a 2.6-kilometer road extending from the Irbid Ring Road to the hospital. The approximately 20-meter-wide road will have two carriageways separated by a median. Works include excavation and earthworks, pavement layers and asphalt surfacing, and a surface-water drainage network.
The project also includes constructing a 115-meter box culvert across Wadi Al-Ghafar, protecting slopes, installing full road lighting, and providing traffic-safety features, including directional and warning signs, road markings, and pavement reflectors.
Maharmeh said the project is part of government efforts to complete the infrastructure required for the new Princess Basma Hospital to begin operating and to provide a direct and safe access route. He added that the road would help improve healthcare services for residents of Irbid and other northern governorates.
The new road is expected to ease traffic pressure in central Irbid, improve traffic flow on surrounding roads, and reduce travel time to the hospital, particularly for ambulances and emergency cases arriving from across the governorate and northern Jordan.
Maharmeh said the ministry continues to implement priority projects serving vital sectors, particularly healthcare, in line with government directives and efforts to develop infrastructure, improve the road network, and raise the quality of public services across the Kingdom.
